Book Review | A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses#2) By Sarah J. Maas

Before I begin my painful review about this 600 pages of emotion, I just wanted to express my stress about sticky flags. So, when I read, I like to use sticky flags, I was recently introduced to Neon colored transparent sticky flags, and I loved them because I didn’t have to move the sticky note every time I read the quote that I flagged. Surely enough, when I started A Court of Mist and Fury I had 2 packs of 100 neon colored, transparent sticky flags. (Not that you need to know, but one I bought from Ebay and the other I was given by an Art Lecturer at Kent University… reason? Unknown. But the quality of those sticky flags were so dang better than the ones I bought on Ebay, like Kent Uni please hook me up with some of those sticky flags.)

Anyways, I ran out of both sticky flags 200 pages in… I went out (after school on a Monday) to get some more at WHSmiths. I paid £5 for a pack of 100, again, whilst I waited for a better deal to arrive within the following days. I thought, “Oh, I’m going to be doing school work that I should be doing and not reading when I shouldn’t be tonight and tomorrow anyways.” that night, I got home and read my night away. The homework that was due in on the Tuesday? Lol, I’d rather get the detention.

I finished the £5 pack of sticky notes that night, my purple substitute flag for Rhysand’s blue flag ran out and I nearly cried. Actually I did, I messaged my friend when I ran out the first time and totally did not freak out about running out of sticky flags… I was flagless.

I guess I should start my actual A Court of Mist and Fury review now..

Please just give me a second while I prepare myself:

I want to start by welcoming you all to the acomaf Support Group, my name is Katerina and I am a victim of Maas destruction – I ship Feysand, which reminds me, this support group has SPOILERS! 

Okay, So I’m just going to ready my tissues cause my eyes have literally become the Niagara Falls since starting this book.

So, my mock exams are like in a weeks time, I have not done any revision what-so-ever, but this book was so FRIGGIN’ GOOD that I had no choice but to keep on reading and fail all my upcoming exams. (BUT WAIT) It’s not too late because I still have a week. *sarcastically gives self thumbs up* 

To begin with, (lol I sound like I’m writing a History essay, but no, my school kicked me off the History course) I want to state how much Feyre has developed as a character. Quite literally, when I first read A Court of Thorns and Roses – I thought Feyre was such a cringe-worthy, annoying ass, basic-bitch-main-character-level-of-annoying person. But… she has gotten 110% better and I didn’t throw my book at the wall for every action she did – it still occurred but it’s cause this book was like a ball of estrogen that is slowly ganging up on me reminding me on how single I am in real life… Despite this, Feyre is slowly becoming one of my beloved female characters (following my dearest Celaena, Aelin, Lysandra, Manon, Asterin and Kaltain). I’m so happy that she’s learnt to protect herself and to learn her powers.

Damn you Tamlin for believing that she’s still weak and fragile, she saved your sorry ass you tool. #TAMTOOL – am I right or am I right?

I mean seriously, this actually pisses me off. I understand that you love her or “love” her. But honest to God she is probably more powerful that you and you’re an actual imbecile for not seeing this. Shame on you. You and Ianthe are made for each other no doubt. Was it even love though? Love or lust? We will never know cause he’s so fucking, ugh. It doesn’t particularly matter though, Feysand is life. (So glad I didn’t have 400 pages worth of Tamlin, but instead my beautiful Rhysand).

Rhysssssssss

*purrs* Rhysaaaand.

Rhysand is the most handsome High Lord.

Rhysand is the most delightful High Lord.

Rhysand is the most cunning High Lord.

He is so flipping perfect and quite literally out of this world. I finally understand the “I need to find a Rhysand in a world full of Tamlins” like yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas gurls yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas.

I just wanna state how I love Rhysand from the very beginning and had shipped myself with Rhys since A Court of Thorns and Roses – I want to be the High Lady of the Night Court oml.

I just really love my Rhysand, honestly, he’s suffered through so much that my heart breaks everytime (but every piece of my heart belongs to him so…) and then Chapter 54 literally killed me, my eyes were so dry and I had such a bad headache from reading it. I was so glad I was home alone the day I finished the book – because honest to God if my parents saw me cry like that they would’ve thought that someone killed my dog or something.

“But then she snapped your neck.”

Tears rolled down his face.

“And I felt you die,” he whispered.

I might create a blog post just for the amount of tags I put in my ACOMAF book, I have so many favourite moments that I can’t fit all into this post.

But moving on to the motherfucking-dope-ass-squad, THE INNER CIRCLE!

Amren is actually so bants, she actually makes me laugh so much, cause she’s supposively the most powerful out of them, but then she takes the death threat rubies and uses it as a page stopper, like yas qweeeeeeeeeeen.

And the bit where Amren realised that Feyre was Rhysand’s mate omg omg omg, I’m not sure if anyone realised this but it was when Feyre first met the inner circle and I died.

“Only once before was a human Made into an immortal. Interesting that it should happen again right as all the ancient players have returned. But Miryam was gifted long life – not a new body. And you, girl…” She sniffed again, and I’ve never felt so laid bare. Surprise lit Amren’s eyes. Rhys just nodded.

Like, can we just take a moment to see how powerful this little (but old ass) girl is? She smelled that they were mates before the mating bond had even snapped in place? Like, hell. She could probably detect the bullshit lies I make up if I haven’t done my homework – and I’m a pretty good liar.

Mor is so freaking cute – but I felt like we didn’t get to see her much in the books, she was either at the Court of Nightmares checking on her bitch ass family or off doing her duty (I guess this was the whole inner circle but okay).

Sarah, if I make a petition about a mini series with the Inner Circle can you please write it pls? Cause I really love the inner circle. WHICH IS WHY I BOUGHT A CHARLIE BOWATER BLANKET OF THE INNER CIRCLE AHHAHAHH. (Thank goodness for the 20% off and free shipping. Black Friday really saved my ass there).

But without a doubt, the characters in A Court of Mist and Fury was well written, but they all nearly killed me because of how much I love them, well by them I mean everyone but Tamlin and that Jurian and the Queens and the King and those bitches. but yeah.

MOVING ONTO THE PLOT:

So, we just started off pretty cool, Feyre was engaged to Tamtool, and then it blah blah blah. We get to the wedding and the bitch Ianthe ruins everything. The one thing that Feyre didn’t want and Ianthe just throws it in like nothing. LIKE BITCH SERIOUSLY, YOU SELFISH ASS BITCH – I really hate Ianthe, can someone sew her Vagina shut? She needs to get an actual life instead of trying to become pregnant.

And then bby Rhysand comes to the rescue, and helps Feyre darling, even though she was like “Woah bitch why you take me?” and threw her shoes at his head.

And blah blah blah.

The bit when Tamlin locks Feyre in the house.

I almost killed a bitch when this happened. Like how dare you Tamlin? She hates tight spaces and only wanted to go and help, and then you locked her in the house? This is absolutely ridiculous. (I cried during this scene too, don’t judge)

But my dear Mor helped Feyre out and all was good – AND WE DIDN’T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH TAMLIN’S BULLSHIT FOR THE NEXT 400 PAGES.

And then everything happened, and Rhys got Feyre to go to the Bone Carver with him, made her retrieve her own engagement ring.. well technically it was his ring then but still, made her retrieve half of a book from the Summer Court, made Feyre Cursebreaker look like a whore in front of the whole Court of Nightmares. And only when Feyre caught the suriel when Rhysand was hurt did she realise that Rhysand was her mate.

And Rhys.

Rhys kept it from her because he didn’t want to force the mating bond on her, or to make her think that he was trying to make her go against Tamlin – HE THOUGHT THAT FROM HIM KEEPING AWAY FOR THE FIRST THREE MONTH SINCE UNDER THE MOUNTAIN WAS GOING TO MAKE FEYRE HAPPY. HE TRIED TO CONVINCE HIMSELF THAT SHE WAS HAPPY WITH THE TOOL AND THAT HE SHOULDN’T INTERFERE CAUSE SHE DESERVED HAPPINESS. RHYSAND MY POOR BABY, YOU DESERVE HER AS MUCH AS SHE DESERVES HAPPINESS – WHY MUST YOU BREAK ALL OF OUR HEARTS?

And then, she ran away from him. She found out the truth and she ran, maybe she was scared? And then she makes Mor winnow her away from him and literally demands that Mor doesn’t tell Rhys where she took Feyre. But seriously. I have never cried so much from reading a book than this. Everytime I think about this it makes me tear up.

And when Rhysand found her in the Cabin

and the whole of chapter 54

but then chapter 55 was *wink wink* *nudge nudge*

but honey, you know what happened for the next 20 minutes worth of reading.

The sun had barely set as Rhys and I walked hand in hand into the dining room of the House of Wind, and found Mor, Azriel, Amren and Cassian already seated. Waiting for us.

As one, they stood.

As one, they looked at me.

And as one, they bowed.

It was Amren who said, “We will serve and protect.”

They each placed a hand over their heart.

YEAH WELL I PUT A HAND OVER MY HEART CAUSE OF HOW MUCH THIS BIT MADE MY HEART ACHE. THEY’RE ONE HAPPY FAMILY.

And then everything happen. And the stupid event with the King of bitchland and Tamtool and the bitch Queens and what they did to Feyre’s sisters.

And then…

after 600 pages of seeing Feysand grow.

They were seperated.

And then my heart broke again.

“Not consort, not wife. Feyre is High Lady of the Night Court.” My equal in every way; she would wear my corwn, sit on a throne beside mine. Never sideline, never designated to breeding and parties and child-rearing. My Queen.

AND THEN THERE WAS TAMTOOL THAT WAS LIKE “NO HIGH LADIES DO NOT EXIST” BITCH SAY THAT TO MY FACE AGAIN I DARE YOU BITCH.

But that broke my heart again.

and but then I realised that Feyre is gonna slay the Spring Court.

And so Tamlin unwittingly led the High Lady of the Night Court into the heart of his territory.

Jesus, Queen Maas always knows how to make a dramatic exit.

So… yeah. I spend most of this blog finding relevent crying gifs of how I felt, and that was me for like a week afterwards. So, yes. My heart is so broken right now.

I need ACOWAR right now, this is so stupid.

Overall, I gave this book 100 stars out of 5, cause it was literally 600 pages of emotion – no book has made me feel like this before and therefore has become my favourite book.
